SUSPENDED COVER

Reroofing has its challenges, but dust and debris falling inside the building should not be one of them. Installing a temporary suspended ceiling during reroofing activities provides a dust and debris containment barrier for facilities during construction. TuffWrap SmartSeam® suspended cover is the only fully code-compliant temporary ceiling construction barrier approved for safe installation below the fire sprinklers to keep operations open during reroofing and construction. TuffWrap is the only interior protection company that offers 100% code-compliant ceiling barriers. No other company can make this claim.

It all started when TuffWrap’s President and Founder Dave Campbell needed to solve a roofing contractor’s problem of keeping dust and debris from contaminating a workspace while roofers worked above. Click here to TAKE A LOOK BACK…

Celebrating 10 years, 50,000 rolls & 75 million sq. ft. of Protection!

This October, TuffWrap Installations celebrates the tenth anniversary of SmartSeam® – a much-needed advance in the problem of construction debris and contaminants – when it installed its revolutionary suspended cover system at a nationally known craft brewery in 2013. SmartSeam® is the first suspended cover and proprietary installation system that uses a temporary ceiling construction barrier below the fire sprinklers. TuffWrap is the only interior protection company that offers 100% code-compliant ceiling barriers.

SmartSeam® is the only suspended cover product and installation method specifically developed and approved for temporary interior protection to be safely installed beneath the automatic sprinklers, mitigating dust and debris. Using SmartSeam® as a temporary ceiling barrier enables reroofing and repair projects to continue overhead without costly production shutdowns, product recall risks, and most importantly, endangering the people and products. The SmartSeam® dust and debris containment barrier gives companies confidence that the fire sprinklers remain fully operational in case of a fire during the reroofing project. That’s  something to celebrate.

SMARTSEAM® Suspended Cover System – The Only Code Compliant & FM Approved System

Meeting industry compliance standards helps roofing contractors, general contractors, and companies mitigate the risk(s) and liabilities of protecting people, products, and property during re-roofing and construction projects. SmartSeam® is the first suspended cover product and installation method that has been specifically developed and approved for temporary interior protection installed beneath the automatic sprinklers to mitigate dust and debris. SmartSeam® is the only interior protection company system that offers fully code-compliant ceiling barriers meeting 100% IBC EC 043; NFPA 13, ASTM E84 Class A; FM-4652; UL 723S compliance standards. No other company can make this claim.

How do you know the product that you are looking at complies with any standard at all? The only way that you know is if it has been evaluated by a recognized accredited certification body. As the leader in this industry, you can be assured that we are up to date on all the rules and regulations governing this process. It’s our responsibility to know what codes are applicable and to provide you with a solution that will reduce your liabilities.

What does IAPMO Uniform ES Mark of Conformity give you? Assurance that SmartSeam is a code compliant installation you and your team can rely on. TuffWrap + IAPMO Uniform ES= CONFIDENCE and COMPLIANCE.

How do you know if a product is suitable for your intended use?  Only TuffWrap® Installations is audited and certified by IAPMO and has ongoing compliance audits and recertification of the use of the approved materials and guidelines in the IBC document. IAPMO professional credentialing services and the company behind Uniform ES reports provides a valid and reliable professional testing program to prove compliance with the code sections. These include flame and smoke performance, stability, and structural performance requirements. NFPA 13 is the standard for the design and installation of automated fire sprinkler systems to prevent fire deaths and property loss. An evaluation process for International Building and Fire Code Compliance is more rigorous than meeting Underwriter Laboratories’ approval of UL723S.  Watch the video to see how TuffWrap®  Installations meets IAPMO Uniform ES Evaluation Criteria for Temporary Ceiling Construction Barriers .

Does your project have special requirements? TuffWrap utilizes other materials to customize a solution for a project. For instance, dust and debris caused by a recent roofing project can settle onto exposed steel beams or closed drop ceilings and circulate within the building. TuffWrap’s High Structure Dust Removal (HSDR) services remove dust and debris from high, horizontal surfaces during the take-down of suspended cover.  SmartSeam® Suspended Cover temporary ceiling blocks dust and debris from entering the facility. Debris Netting can be combined with SmartSeam to provide additional protection from large debris. Does your facility have skylights? TuffWrap can provide Skylight Safeguard Systems to mitigate fall risk. Contact Us to learn how TuffWrap’s Solutions can work with your project needs.

SMARTSEAM® is a 100% Building Code compliant Suspended Cover, approved to be installed under fire sprinklers.

SmartSeam® keeps facilities safe and operational during re-roofing, renovation and construction projects. It is a temporary suspended ceiling made from a sheet of polyethylene used below the roof deck to capture dust and debris that might drop during construction. Engineered to be flame-resistant, the heat-reactive seam, made up of 6′ x 5′ panels, opens quickly in the event of a fire to allow sprinklers to activate. A protective dust cap over the heat-reactive seam provides extra dust and debris protection. Made from a four-ply material, six-mil thick polyethylene, SmartSeam® incorporates a diagonal and perpendicular scrim design to resist tearing and provide the highest puncture resistance and tear strength. In addition, TuffWrap is the only company in the industry that provides antimicrobial protection against mold, mildew, and bacterial growth and is anti-static to mitigate electrostatic discharges (ESD) to combat combustible dust.

SmartSeam® is a 100% code compliant temporary suspended ceiling. It meets the requirements of the International Building Code (IBC) Evaluation Criteria, EC 043, for Temporary Ceiling Construction Barriers. Including the IBC’s six categories of performance: quality, strength, effectiveness, fire resistance, durability, and safety. In addition, it meets the FM Approvals’ unique stringent requirements and procedures established for a new class of materials (FM-4652). The compliance of TuffWrap’s SmartSeam® indicates that the product is tested to the highest standards and maintains a consistent quality which can limit liability during a project.

SmartSeam®  heat-reactive seams allow sprinklers to activate in the event of a fire.

TuffWrap® Protection

TuffWrap Engineered Film better protects your space.

THREE REQUIREMENTS OF CODE COMPLIANCE

The SmartSeam® Suspended Cover System meets the three requirements of code compliance to ensure that it is safe and effective interior protection to use during reroofing projects. To provide roofing debris containment, SmartSeam® has a specially engineered film with anti-static, fire retardant, and anti-microbial additives to stop dust and debris from flying around or falling due to construction.

Three Requirements of Code Compliance include:

1. RECOGNIZED STANDARD: IAPMO worked with engineers to help identify requirements, develop a consensus document to outline the requirements, and identify the specific testing that complied with the appropriate sections of code. TuffWrap® has met and exceeded all these requirements.

2. IMPARTIAL TESTING: SmartSeam® had to be independently tested by IAPMO and pass numerous requirements on flame and smoke performance, stability, and structural performance.

3. SCHEDULED AND CONTINUOUS MANUFACTURING QUALITY AUDITS: SmartSeam® was invented and exclusively manufactured by TuffWrap®. Made in the USA, the TuffWrap® manufacturing facility in Pennsylvania is inspected and audited for quality assurance throughout the year.

Using SmartSeam®, an IBC and IFC compliant suspended cover ensures that your local fire marshal, building officials, AHJ (Authority Having Jurisdiction), and the contractor will use a product that is safe and effective for protecting people, products, and property.
