Overall, the Nation’s Leading Public University’s Iconic Dome roof renovation was a challenging and complex installation. The domed roof of Advanced Light Source (ALS) was replaced with a cool roof that reflects the sunlight into the atmosphere.
The installation team cut SmartSeam Suspended Cover panels (totaling 23,000 square feet) to size to protect the dome from the inside. Extensive safety precautions protected workers and equipment, including closing the facility during the major project. The dome dates back to 1940. The entire interior of the dome was covered with plastic sheeting. The temporary barrier collected dust and debris. Especially the lead-based paint debris that might have fallen or scraped off during the roofing work.
