TuffWrap® Canada Division – FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Protecting People, Products, & Property

Why are roofing contractors and general contractors exchanging their homemade tarping and hoarding for professional-grade interior protection systems?

As standards and customers require more and more, there is a need to bring a professional-grade solution to tarping that provides the type of performance and broad compliance necessary to meet the job demands.

What type of performance are contractors looking for when choosing a professional-grade ceiling and wall containment system?

The containment system must be sturdy yet durable to withstand whatever environment it is in, in terms of temperature, humidity, and the amount of dust and debris that might be falling on it for the duration of the project. Also, it needs to be anti-static and antimicrobial to meet requirements in the food and beverage, pharmaceutical, and electronics Industries. Those are the main areas of compliance that contractors are looking for.

Which regulatory agencies are relevant to compliance with interior protection systems? Are they generally more concerned with human safety or property loss or both?

The National Building Code and the National Fire Code are two regulatory agencies focused primarily on human safety and reducing the loss of human life.

FM Approvals regulate property law, as they relate to the insurance companies. According to the building code, a temporary structure you would put inside a building poses a similar kind of fire risk to a permanent building. So there is just as much of a need to have the material tested to ULC standards, and TuffWrap passes that for here in Canada.

The fire code is also very critical. Fire Protection Officers will often appear on a job site. And if they see things are impeding the sprinklers, like a lot of polyethylene sheeting up in the ceiling, they could just shut the whole job down. It is a very high bar for products to pass NFPA 13 standards where the sprinklers are not impeded. TuffWrap also passes that particular hurdle and is approved. TuffWrap Suspended Cover SmartSeam has been fully tested from a fire standpoint by FM Approvals. We are the only company in Canada that checks off all three; the Building Code, the Fire Code, and FM Approvals.

How does TuffWrap® EXT Exterior Walls extend the construction season and reduce downtime due to weather?

TuffWrap® EXT Exterior Protection is engineered for the great outdoors. TuffWrap® Canada’s EXT exterior walls and doors create a construction envelope around a building to protect people, products, and property during renovation or rebuilding. It also allows the facility to stay open and safe without interruptions, work stoppages, or delays.

TuffWrap® EXT exterior protection is a suspended tarp barrier system that is custom engineered to fit the project requirements, covering large openings and spans. Custom mounting hardware, designed and manufactured by TuffWrap, allows EXT to be installed almost anywhere, even for projects above 50 feet high. It installs easily with no studs or scaffolding.
